The Wolf Town committee are no mean players in the PR business. Described by their label as a ten man army they've done in one album what the City Council couldn't achieve in a hundred years: make Wolverhampton look cool. This album hits you hard and the tempo is pretty aggressive. Opening track 'RU Ready for us?' is a formulaic introduction. Second track 'Legendary Status' is impressive. The beats are deep but pretty funky. The lyrics are inextricable - producing a tapestry of sound that you can't help but nod to. 'It's How it Go' is a smart set by Jai Boo, the sole female Committee member, spinning out a track that has something of the Warren G to it. Wolf Town Committee wax lyrical about crime, penis size and rapping. I can't really tell whether they're fantasising or recounting everyday life but either way they seem to be a on a Thatcherite 'fuck you we got a look after our own' tip. It's not a bad example of British Bad Boy Rap, and it inures you to the Midlands accent a-la-Credit to the Nation. Whilst its good to see a group get all their stuff out, the album as a set-piece might have benefited from a little more selectivity amongst the twenty-one tracks. Visit www.wolftown.co.uk.
